Investigation into Storage Unit Burglary Leads to Arrests

A recent investigation into a burglary at a storage unit in Livingston Parish has resulted in the arrest of two individuals. Torrie D. Lacey, 44, and Jason Rex, 40, both from Denham Springs, have been charged with simple burglary. The case began on August 2, 2025, when the Walker Police Department was called to investigate a reported burglary at a storage unit.

The storage unit in question was located on Walker South Road and belonged to a recently married couple. According to the couple, the unit contained their wedding gifts, an electric scooter, and other personal items. They returned to the unit a month after placing these items inside and discovered that it was "nearly empty." The e-scooter had a GPS tracking device, which played a key role in the investigation.

Law enforcement traced the GPS signal to a trailer park on Walker South Road. The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office joined the Walker Police Department in the search, but they initially could not locate the e-scooter. Further investigation revealed that Lacey was a neighbor of the residence where the e-scooter had first tracked. Additionally, Lacey was a renter of a storage unit at the same facility used by the couple.

On August 12, law enforcement returned to the trailer park and found Lacey and Rex at Lacey’s residence. Rex admitted to possessing the e-scooter, which was stored in a nearby shed. He claimed he had successfully bid for an abandoned storage unit. That unit was located at the same storage facility where the couple's belongings were taken. Rex stated that the stolen items were located in the abandoned unit.

Following this information, law enforcement obtained a search warrant and discovered numerous items belonging to the married couple at Lacey’s residence. A subsequent search of Rex’s home on Buddy Ellis Road also uncovered items that belonged to the couple.

According to Walker PD, the storage unit belonging to the couple was accessed through the abandoned unit that Rex had purchased. Both Lacey and Rex were taken to the Livingston Parish Detention Center. Rex’s bond was set at $92,500, while Lacey’s bond was set at $43,000. In addition to the burglary charges, the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office also booked Lacey and Rex on drug-related charges.

The investigation is ongoing, and more charges may be filed in the case. Walker Police Chief David Addison expressed satisfaction with the swift resolution of the burglary. “Our Detectives and those of the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office did a great job of identifying the people responsible for this burglary and recovering so much of the stolen property,” he said. “We are grateful for their hard work and dedication to protecting our City and this Parish.”
