“Democrats in America right now are willing to be complicit to Donald Trump to let this pass through when we have all the leverage right now,” he said. “If you’re as passionate about police as we are, then pass bills out of this body that will help the police officers in Washington, Illinois, New Jersey, and everywhere else.”

The debate extended beyond Cortez Masto, as Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) also weighed in. She expressed frustration with Booker’s timing, pointing out that the bills had already passed the Judiciary Committee unanimously and were bipartisan in nature. “You can’t do one thing on police week and not show up,” she said, criticizing the lack of consistency in how lawmakers approached the issue.

Klobuchar emphasized that the legislation was important and that it had been carefully crafted through committee work. “These are bipartisan, commonsense legislation,” she said. “I can’t help it if someone couldn’t change their schedule to be there.”
