She was hospitalized on March 15, 2023, and declared brain dead three days later.

During the trial, it was uncovered that James Craig had conducted extensive research on poisons before carrying out his plan. He searched for information such as "how many grams of pure arsenic will kill a human" and "Is Arsenic Detectable in Autopsy." He also looked into "undetectable poisons" and their effects. These searches were detailed in a redacted affidavit released during the trial.

Craig ordered arsenic from Amazon, which arrived at his home in suburban Denver on March 4, 2023. Two days later, Angela drank a protein shake he prepared and began experiencing symptoms like dizziness and weakness. She was admitted to Parker Adventist Hospital on March 9 and released on March 14. However, the poisoning continued, leading to her eventual hospitalization and death.

Cover-Up and Deception

In addition to the poisoning, prosecutors revealed that Craig attempted to cover up his crime by enlisting others to fabricate evidence and lie. One of the most disturbing aspects of the case was his attempt to use his daughter to create a deepfake video of his wife. This act, along with his plot to target the lead detective investigating the case, demonstrated a calculated effort to evade justice.

District Attorney Amy Padden emphasized the premeditated nature of the crime during a news conference. "This is Angela's husband poisoning her, causing her to die a slow death," she said. "It wasn't something done in the heat of passion. It was deliberate."

Personal Struggles and Affairs

Emails between Craig and Cain showed intimate and sexually explicit conversations, with Cain reportedly visiting him while his wife was hospitalized.
