New Emergency Care Options in Henderson

HENDERSON, Texas – A new medical facility has officially opened its doors in Henderson, offering residents a new option for emergency care. The CHRISTUS Emergency Center in Henderson was unveiled during a ribbon-cutting ceremony held on Tuesday morning. Located at 1875 Highway 259 South, the center is now available to serve the community around the clock.

The facility spans 12,000 square feet and provides 24-hour emergency services. According to Emergency Medical Director Brendon Oyler, the center includes a full laboratory, imaging capabilities, and a team of over 40 healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and support staff. This comprehensive setup ensures that patients receive immediate and effective care when they need it most.

Scott Fossey, the event’s emcee and regional vice president of philanthropy for the hospital, emphasized the significance of the new center. “This state-of-the-art emergency center is more than just a building. It represents our very mission in action,” he said. He added that the mission of CHRISTUS Health is to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ to the community and beyond.

Several key figures attended the ceremony, including Henderson Mayor Henry Pace, CHRISTUS Good Shepherd Health System President and CEO Todd Hancock, and CHRISTUS Health Northeast Texas/North Louisiana Senior Vice President of Group Operations Chris Glenney. Each speaker highlighted the importance of the facility and the dedicated team behind it.

Hancock expressed his admiration for the center’s quality and the skilled professionals who will be working there. “As great as this facility is, it’s nothing without the top-notch professionals that are going to serve here in this community,” he said. He praised the physicians, nurses, caregivers, and technologists who will bring healing to the area.

Hillary Faulkner, who works for the City of Henderson, shared her excitement about the new center. She noted that many of her colleagues have primary care physicians affiliated with CHRISTUS, making the new emergency center a convenient option for them. “We’re excited about it,” she said.

Previously, Faulkner would sometimes take her family to urgent care centers in Longview or Tyler if they needed medical attention. Now, she appreciates having another option. “If one E.R. is more full, then you can go to the other one. It’s nice having a choice,” she said.

Oyler emphasized the critical role the center plays in responding to unexpected health emergencies. “This E.R. is here for the unexpected. When a child wakes up with a high fever, or you start feeling chest pain. Something just doesn’t feel right and you know that it can’t wait. We are here 24-7 for those moments with fast, effective and compassionate care.”

UT Health Henderson also operates 24 hours a day, but the addition of the CHRISTUS Emergency Center offers more options for local residents. Chris Glenney, CHRISTUS Health Sr. Vice President of Group Operations, mentioned that this is their sixteenth emergency room facility. He added that the physicians working at this center are the same ones who serve in CHRISTUS Health’s highest-level trauma centers.

Faulkner also pointed out that the new center streamlines the process for her and her colleagues. “That’s something I really like about this, is that all our information is already right there,” she said. This integration reduces the amount of paperwork and improves efficiency.

The $14 million facility will employ approximately 40 healthcare workers. In a recent release, CHRISTUS announced that this is one of four new facilities. One will open in Palestine later this year, and another in Mount Pleasant in 2026. Additionally, a new cancer center in Longview is set to open in 2026, further expanding healthcare access in the region.
