Chris Evans' Ghosted Surpasses Global Success Two Years On

The Resurgence of "Ghosted" on Streaming Platforms
Despite receiving poor reviews, the movie "Ghosted" has managed to find success on streaming platforms. Starring Chris Evans, this action rom-com has returned to the top of Apple TV+'s global movie charts more than two years after its initial release.
According to FlixPatrol, as of August 17, "Ghosted" is ranked No. 7 on Apple TV+'s Top Movies Worldwide chart. It is positioned behind several other films, including "Greyhound," "Wolfs," "Luck," "Echo Valley," "The Gorge," and "The Fountain of Youth." This isn't the first time that "Ghosted" has made a comeback on Apple TV+’s streaming charts. There was a surge in interest around June, coinciding with the release of Ana de Armas' new film, "Ballerina."
Critical Reception of "Ghosted"
Upon its release in April 2023, "Ghosted" did not win over critics. Review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes gave it an approval rating of just 24%, based on 119 reviews. The consensus stated, "Listlessly wafting between action, comedy, and romance without ever solidifying into a satisfying whole, 'Ghosted' earns a chorus of boos." One of the main criticisms was the lack of chemistry between Chris Evans and Ana de Armas, who had previously worked together in the 2019 film "Knives Out."
In September 2023, Evans acknowledged the poor critical reception of "Ghosted," admitting that the movie "could have been better."
Plot Overview
In "Ghosted," Chris Evans plays Cole Turner, who falls in love with Ana de Armas' character, Sadie Rhodes, without knowing that she is a secret agent. Before they can plan a second date, Cole and Sadie are swept into an international adventure to save the world from a disgraced French Intelligence agent named Leveque, played by Arien Brody. The film also features Mike Moh, Amy Sedaris, Tim Blake Nelson, Marwan Kenzari, and Anna Deavere Smith.
Chris Evans' Recent Filmography
Chris Evans has faced some challenges in his career since leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the release of "Avengers: Endgame" in 2019. Outside of "Knives Out," where he played a supporting role, all of his leading man movies have either failed at the box office or received mixed or negative reviews from critics.
For example, "Lightyear" did not resonate well with "Toy Story" fans, while "The Gray Man" was an unmemorable action thriller. "Pain Hustlers" received worse reviews than "Ghosted," and his Christmas action comedy with Dwayne Johnson bombed in theaters and earned bad reviews.
Recent Positive Reviews
Until 2025, the best reviews Evans had received since "Knives Out" were for his scene-stealing cameos as himself in "Free Guy" and as Johnny Storm/Human Torch in "Deadpool & Wolverine." His performance in Celine Song's romantic comedy-drama "Materialists" was praised, although some critics still felt he lacked chemistry with the movie's female lead, Dakota Johnson.
Upcoming Projects
Evans will next be seen in Ethan Coen's dark comedy "Honey Don't," where he plays religious cult leader Reverend Drew Devlin. The movie is set to hit theaters on August 22.
"Ghosted" is available to stream on Apple TV+.
