Charley Hull Returns, But 'Weird' Round Needs Stretcher – WD Fresh

Charley Hull's Return and the Unforgettable Round
Charley Hull is back on the golf course, but her recent experiences are still fresh in her mind. The English golfer has shared a story of a "weird" round that left her needing a stretcher and ultimately resulted in a withdrawal. As she enters an important stretch of the season, this incident remains a vivid memory.
Hull described feeling as if she had just come off a hangover, with her hand-eye coordination off. She admitted to rarely drinking, only a couple of times a year for the past eight years. However, she struggled with her swing during a recent event, often grounding the ball.
At the Evian Championship, Hull faced a series of challenges. On Monday, she felt unwell, and by Tuesday, her practice round was difficult. She experienced fatigue, body aches, and a high temperature. Despite these symptoms, she played in the pro-am on Wednesday, not wanting to let her team down.
The following morning, Hull woke up feeling dizzy, with cold sweats and no energy. Still, she continued playing, managing to be one-under through 11 holes. On the 12th hole, while in a fairway bunker, she sat down due to dizziness. Her vision and hearing faded, and she fainted.
Hull recounted the events: "I felt really dizzy and I was in the bunker hitting a fairway shot and I had to sit down for a minute because my eyesight went and my hearing went." She managed to hit the shot and nearly made a birdie. However, when she walked to the next tee, her vision and hearing returned, and she collapsed again.
The security guard and medic caught her before she hit her head on a concrete slab. Hull was out for over a minute, and her blood pressure was 80/50, with low blood sugar levels. She was taken off the course on a stretcher, which she found embarrassing.
Despite the incident, Hull withdrew from the tournament but asked her agent to check if she could play later that day. She admitted it wasn't possible, and she was disappointed. When asked if the moment was scary, she replied, "It was scary, but it was weird."
After waking up from the fainting spell, she felt like she had just come out of a deep sleep. She was confused about her surroundings, asking, "Where the f*** am I?"
Less than a week later, Hull was back on the course. At the Scottish Open, she focused on putting. Doctors advised her to rest, but she found it challenging. "I don't like sitting still," she said, explaining that being inactive drives her crazy. She has been practicing hard, not wanting to simply twiddle her thumbs.
Hull remains hopeful about her future. A reporter reminded her of a saying, which she repeated: "Beware of the sick DISCOVER TRENDer."
As she moves forward, Hull is determined to overcome the challenges she has faced. With her upcoming tournaments, including the Women's Open, she is ready to make a strong comeback.
