Richardson established the organization in Columbia in 2020 before relocating to Charleston County in 2021. Her focus is on supporting families in need of housing and rent assistance, particularly in rural areas of the county.
Richardson expressed enthusiasm for the potential of the county's funding opportunities. She believes that additional resources would allow her organization to expand its services and help more individuals facing rising utility and food costs.
Breakdown of Available Funding
The Community Investment funds offer a total of $250,000 to qualifying nonprofits. Each organization can receive up to $10,000 through this category. These funds are intended to support a wide range of community initiatives.
The Local Accommodations Tax provides $400,000 for organizations focused on promoting tourism. This funding is meant to enhance the county’s appeal as a vacation destination. Nonprofits can receive up to $40,000 under this category. Applications are reviewed by the Charleston Area Convention & Visitors Bureau and the College of Charleston’s Office of Tourism Analysis.
The highest amount of funding comes from the State Accommodations Tax, which allocates $525,000 for projects related to tourism infrastructure. This includes renovations and maintenance of facilities that contribute to the county’s tourism sector. Applications for this funding are evaluated by the State Accommodations Tax Committee based on specific criteria.

Honeycutt explained that the taxes collected from tourism are reinvested into the community to maintain and improve the area’s appeal. She emphasized the value of these investments in ensuring that Charleston County remains a desirable destination for visitors.
