Sadly, Her Majesty wasn’t able to visit with us again before her death in 2022, but our friendship with the Royal Family continues, and we exchange letters with King Charles to this day.”

According to reports, Melania and King Charles have maintained regular communication through letters, discussing topics such as architecture, gardens, and the arts. Their conversations have also included discussions on environmental conservation. During a banquet hosted in honor of the U.S. state visit, Melania noted that she and the then-Prince of Wales had an interesting conversation about his commitment to environmental causes.

She also mentioned hosting the Prince and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, at a private dinner in 2019. The event took place at the residence of the U.S. ambassador and was seen as a symbol of the enduring relationship between the two nations. “Donald and I hosted an intimate dinner in honor of Prince Charles and the Duchess at the US ambassador’s residence—a perfect expression of the enduring ties between our nations,” she wrote.

Despite the political challenges in Britain at the time, including the uncertainty surrounding Brexit and changes in leadership, the Queen and her family welcomed the Trumps with warmth and hospitality. Melania emphasized that the royal family treated them with great respect and kindness.

However, recent reports suggest that King Charles is concerned about the upcoming state visit by President Trump. According to The Daily Beast, the King is “very concerned” that Trump may focus on immigration issues during the visit, particularly given his recent comments in Scotland. Trump said, “You better get your act together or you’re not going to have Europe anymore,” adding, “This immigration is killing Europe.”

A source close to the King reportedly stated that Charles has always promoted tolerance and compassion, and he would be disappointed by Trump’s remarks, which are seen as driven by domestic political interests. The source added that the King is worried about the possibility of similar outbursts during the September visit.

To prevent any potential issues, some precautions are being taken. A civil servant told the outlet that Parliament will not be in session during the visit, so Trump won’t have the chance to deliver an inflammatory speech to MPs. However, he will still give a speech and offer toasts at the banquet, which are typically ceremonial and aimed at strengthening the relationship between the two countries.

Despite these concerns, it seems that Trump has a particular respect for the British royal family. As one official put it, “We will just have to hope for the best.”
