A tense and chaotic incident unfolded in Chandler, Arizona, when a house party turned into a violent confrontation that escalated into a high-speed chase across the city. Three men were eventually arrested following the events, which ended with a dramatic vehicle rollover in Tempe.

The incident began just after 1 a.m. on July 27 when officers responded to reports of gunfire at a house party in north Chandler. According to a spokesperson for the Chandler Police Department, “uninvited guests showed up at the home and were asked to leave.” One of these individuals reportedly fired several rounds at the house before fleeing the scene.

Two people inside the home armed themselves with a shotgun and pursued the shooter in a vehicle, according to police. When officers arrived, the chase was already underway. The vehicle involved was a Toyota Rav4 SUV carrying two men, who were followed by police onto Rural and Warner roads in Tempe.

During the chase, the passenger of the vehicle exited and was arrested. However, the driver continued to evade capture until police used a grappler device to stop the vehicle. This action caused the car to skid and roll over, creating a dramatic moment captured on video by a local witness.

A Witness’s Perspective

Arizona State University student Kevin Stevenson was walking on the sidewalk at around 1:30 a.m. on his way home from the gym when he witnessed the entire event. His video footage shows the moment the vehicle skidded to the side before making contact with the sidewalk and rolling over. The car landed on its tires, surrounded by a cloud of smoke.

Stevenson described the experience as “surreal” and said he immediately started recording the incident. After finishing the video, he heard police using an intercom to tell the suspects to exit the vehicle. Fearing potential crossfire, he quickly ran away from the scene.

Arrests and Legal Consequences

Following the crash, Chandler police arrested the driver of the vehicle, identified as Demarcus McCormick, 35. Court records indicate that McCormick was intoxicated, had an outstanding felony warrant, and was found in possession of narcotics. He suffered minor injuries and was taken to Banner Desert Medical Center, where he was later cleared medically.

McCormick was also charged with possession of narcotic drugs and drug paraphernalia. Additionally, he ordered his passenger to throw the shotgun out of the vehicle’s window, according to court documents.

Another suspect, Brian Baker, 18, was arrested in connection with the initial shooting. Court records state that Baker pointed and shot a firearm in the general direction of six people. Police found shell casings on the street in front of the house, and evidence indicated that two homes sustained bullet strikes.

Baker was arrested on suspicion of discharging a firearm in city limits and at a residence, as well as aggravated assault. Both Baker and McCormick were scheduled to appear in court on August 1.
