Catherine Zeta-Jones Says 4 Homes With Michael Douglas Are 'Very Comfortable'

Catherine Zeta-Jones and the Art of Living Comfortably
Catherine Zeta-Jones, 55, has always embraced a lifestyle that balances luxury with comfort. When discussing her and husband Michael Douglas's four homes—two in New York, one in Canada, and one in Spain—she emphasized that while it may sound like a jet-setter’s dream, it’s not about excess. “I know it sounds very jet set, and I love to surround myself with beauty, but it’s not excessive, it’s very comfortable,” she shared.
Zeta-Jones is unapologetic about her love for high-end fashion and unique items. She often visits vintage stores in Paris, where she purchases pieces that may never see the light of day. “I buy things that you are probably never going to wear, like a gorgeous cape or great pieces,” she said. “I’m loving classic Yves Saint Laurent at the moment. I get excited about evening dresses.”
However, when it comes to more practical items, she isn’t as inclined to spend. “For me, a pair of jeans is a pair of jeans. Spending £200 on a white T-shirt? Nah,” she added. But when it comes to couture, beading, and artistry, she’s all in. “I love the theatre of fashion.”
Her daughter, Carys, who is 22, has inherited her mother’s taste for luxury. “She loves my closet,” Zeta-Jones said. “I have probably the biggest Fendi Baguette bag collection, and she’s just found more in my mum’s house. I’ve got everything from denim to pearl to sequins.” A single Fendi Baguette bag can retail for up to $11,500. “Carla Fendi used to give them to me all the time, right when they were hot potatoes,” she recalled.
The couple also keeps their Oscars separate. Zeta-Jones won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2003 for her role in Chicago, while Douglas won for Best Actor in Wall Street in 1988. “Mine is in the country house in New York, Michael’s is in the apartment in New York,” she revealed. “We keep them apart, just in case, you know, there isn’t like hanky-panky going on there.”
Despite their different locations, the couple maintains a strong bond. They’ve been married since November 2000 and share two children: Carys and Dylan, who is 25. “We don’t listen to the crap that is written about us, that’s the main thing,” Zeta-Jones said. “And we respect our space, we’re independent spirits. We are very similar; we were born on the same day, 25 years apart.”
She also highlighted their open communication style. “We’re not afraid to be verbal, to express ourselves,” she said. “I wear everything on my sleeve and so does he, which is good.”
Recently, Douglas told Variety that he’s intentionally stepping back from his acting career and has no plans to return. Zeta-Jones supports his decision. “Michael has definitely earned the chance to slow down,” she said, noting that he now spends more time playing golf. “But I never say never. He’s his father’s son and loves to work — let’s just say, ‘retirement’ is a flexible concept.”
