A Milestone for CAST
In North Fork, NY, a local organization is preparing to commemorate a significant milestone. The Center for Advocacy, Support & Transformation (CAST) is set to celebrate its 60th anniversary with a special event on Friday, August 8. The celebration will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at CAST’s location at 53930 Main Road in Southold.
This event aims to bring together community members, supporters, volunteers, and partners to honor six decades of impact. It is also a time to express gratitude to those who have contributed to CAST’s success over the years.
Guests can expect to enjoy light bites, beer, wine, and live music by the Hoodoo Loungers. The evening will be filled with gratitude and celebration, creating a memorable experience for all attendees.
A Legacy of Support and Growth
Founded in 1965, CAST has grown into the leading provider of essential programs and services for low-income and vulnerable individuals and families on the North Fork and Shelter Island. The organization offers a wide range of services, including food relief, emergency assistance, educational enrichment, workforce training, and the arts.
Erica Steindl, CAST’s Executive Director, emphasized the organization's commitment to meeting essential needs, providing opportunities, and building a stronger, healthier, and more equitable community. She highlighted the importance of the support received over the years, which has enabled CAST to expand its reach and effectively meet growing demands.
Marc Sokol, CAST board president, expressed deep gratitude to those who have supported the organization over the past six decades. He noted that their contributions have allowed CAST to continue its mission with dignity and compassion.
Bessie Swann, co-founder and former executive director of CAST, reflected on the organization’s journey. She described her time as executive director as one of the most humbling and rewarding experiences of her life. She shared how she was blessed to work alongside dedicated staff and volunteers, many of whom became lifelong friends. Together, they witnessed lives transformed and futures rebuilt.
Southold Town Supervisor Al Krupski also praised CAST’s impact on the community. He stated that the town is better off because of CAST’s presence and expressed gratitude for the organization’s work.
Meeting Growing Needs
The 60th anniversary celebration comes at a critical time when CAST’s services are more needed than ever. Representatives noted that rising living costs, seasonal employment challenges, and recent federal funding cuts have increased the demand for safety net programs.
In 2025, CAST plans to provide over 480,000 healthy meals, emergency financial support, client advocacy, and educational programming to more than 1,500 households on the North Fork and Shelter Island.
CAST members expressed deep gratitude to the North Fork and Shelter Island communities for their continued generosity, advocacy, and involvement. The event serves as a heartfelt thank you to individuals, volunteers, and donors who help support the organization’s mission daily.
Join the Celebration
Tickets for the event can be reserved online. Attendees are encouraged to make a donation of $19.65, which marks the year CAST was founded. All proceeds will go toward supporting CAST’s ongoing programs and services.
Organizers hope to celebrate this milestone with the community and look forward to welcoming everyone to the event.
