Municipal Election Candidates Begin Filing for November 4 Ballot
The candidate filing period for this year’s municipal elections is now open, running from August 18 to August 29. This marks the beginning of a crucial phase where aspiring candidates can officially register to appear on the ballot for the upcoming election on November 4. Voters across various cities in the region will soon have the opportunity to learn who is running for key positions such as mayor and city council.
Candidates interested in being listed on the Nov. 4 ballot must start registering on Monday, August 18, and all filings must be completed by 5 p.m. on Friday, August 29. On election day, voters will head to polling locations between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. To ensure they vote at the correct location, residents are encouraged to use the Vote Idaho polling place lookup tool available at VoteIdaho.gov.
Idaho Falls (Bonneville)
In Idaho Falls, there are four major positions up for grabs: Mayor and three City Council Seats (2, 4, and 6), each with a four-year term. Candidates must reside within the city limits and run at large, meaning they do not represent specific districts but the entire city.

Ammon (Bonneville)
Ammon is also experiencing an open race, with the Mayor’s seat and three council member positions in Districts 2, 4, and 6 up for election. Unlike some other cities, council members in Ammon serve at large, allowing them to live anywhere within the city boundaries.
Pocatello (Bannock)
Pocatello voters will elect a new mayor and council members for Seats 4, 5, and 6. Similar to Ammon, candidates for these positions can reside anywhere within the city and represent the entire community rather than specific districts.
Rexburg (Madison)
Rexburg voters will choose from three council seats currently held by Mikel Walker, Robert Chambers, and Colin Erickson. The mayor’s position is not up for re-election this cycle. Additionally, the city is expected to put a general obligation bond on the ballot to fund the construction of a new police station.
Sugar City (Madison)
Two council seats in Sugar City will be contested in November. Incumbents Catherine Neilson and Carter Stanford currently hold those positions. Like many other cities, council members in Sugar City run at large rather than by district.
Rigby (Jefferson)
Rigby has an open mayoral seat and three contested council positions. The current council members holding these seats—Alex Espinosa, Becky Harrison, and Mike Wilder—are all up for re-election.
St. Anthony (Fremont)
St. Anthony voters will see contests for the mayor’s position and three council member seats. Council members in this city serve at large, allowing candidates to live anywhere within the city limits.
Driggs (Teton)
Driggs has a contested mayoral race, with August Christensen currently serving as mayor. Two council seats are also up for election, held by Jennifer Bragg and Jason Popiilsky. Two additional council seats will be open in 2027.
Chubbuck (Bannock)
Chubbuck is offering two open council member seats and one mayoral position. All of these roles come with four-year terms.
Blackfoot (Bingham) and American Falls (Power)
