Cameron Boyce's Mom Grateful for Adam Sandler's Tribute in 'Happy Gilmore 2'

Remembering Cameron Boyce: A Lasting Legacy
Cameron Boyce’s life was cut short at just 20 years old, but his impact continues to resonate with those who knew him and the fans who admired his talent. He passed away in 2019 due to an unexpected epileptic seizure while sleeping, as confirmed by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. At the time, he was set to appear in Adam Sandler's 2020 film "Hubie Halloween," a role that never came to fruition.
Despite this loss, Sandler has consistently found ways to honor Boyce’s memory. In "Hubie Halloween," he included a heartfelt tribute during a blooper sequence, reflecting on the young actor’s kindness, humor, and talent. The message read, “In loving memory of Cameron Boyce. Gone way too soon and one of the kindest, coolest, funniest, and most talented kids we knew.” It concluded with, “You live on forever in our hearts and are truly missed every day.”
Five years later, Sandler continues to keep Boyce’s legacy alive through his latest film, "Happy Gilmore 2." Released on July 25, the movie features a subtle nod to the late actor. In one scene, Sandler is seen walking up to a check-in booth with a golf bag, while workers at the booth watch a TV showing a clip from Disney Channel’s "Jessie." This particular episode includes a brief appearance by Boyce, who played Luke Ross from 2011 to 2015.
On July 28, Boyce’s mother, Libby, took to Instagram to express her gratitude for Sandler’s gesture. She shared a photo of the scene and wrote, “Thank you (Adam Sandler) for honoring Cam's legacy in Happy Gilmore 2.” Alongside the post, she included a photo of a younger Boyce with Sandler and a video of Sandler speaking about her son at the 2024 Cameron Boyce Foundation's 3rd Annual Cam For A Cause Gala.
In the interview, Sandler reflected on their friendship, saying, “He was one of the nicest kids I've ever met, funniest kids I ever met.” He also expressed pride in being part of the event, stating, “I just love talking about him and thinking of him and his parents. Proud to be here.”
Libby also shared a screenshot of a Hollywood Reporter article about the surprise cameo in "Happy Gilmore 2." In the caption, she opened up about the bond between Sandler and her son. “Adam and Cameron talked quite a bit in the days leading up to his death,” she wrote. “Cameron was supposed to be in Hubies Halloween and they were strategizing.” She added, “They had a bond I think related to being authentic, funny and just keeping it real. Adam always finds a way to keep Cams memory alive which warms our heart.”
Sandler and Boyce first worked together in 2010 on the set of Sandler’s film "Grown Ups," where Boyce played Sandler’s on-screen son. They reunited for the 2013 sequel, "Grown Ups 2." After Boyce’s passing, Sandler took to social media to share his grief. He wrote, “Too young. Too sweet. Too funny. Just the nicest, most talented, and most decent kid around.” He continued, “Loved that kid. Cared so much about his family. Cared so much about the world. Thank you, Cameron, for all you gave to us. So much more was on the way. All our hearts are broken.”
Through his continued tributes, Sandler has ensured that Cameron Boyce’s legacy lives on, reminding the world of the bright light he brought into everyone’s lives.
