Six women with Maryland addresses have been charged in Massachusetts following a break-in incident in Norwood. Some of these individuals are currently in the custody of federal immigration officials, as reported by local law enforcement. The situation unfolded when homeowners discovered several female suspects inside their residence and alerted the police.

The Incident Unfolds

The incident began on July 25 when officers were called to a home on Neponset Street at 12:30 p.m. Upon arrival, the police spoke with the residents who had returned to find several female suspects inside the house. When confronted by the homeowners, the suspects fled to a waiting vehicle and left the area.

Later that day, an officer spotted a vehicle matching the description provided by the homeowners and attempted to pull it over. However, the driver failed to stop and led the police to Dean Street. At this location, six occupants exited the vehicle and ran into the woods, according to police reports.

One of the women was quickly arrested by the pursuing officer. Police said the others were spotted behind a nearby business, where two more were arrested and two others were caught as they tried to cross a nearby river. The sixth woman was apprehended shortly thereafter.

Identification and Charges

According to court records, the women returned home because a young girl had forgotten her doll. During booking, two suspects were found to have obscured or altered fingerprints, preventing initial identification. The Norwood Police Department worked with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) to confirm all suspects’ identities. All six individuals had Maryland addresses, and several had active warrants from other states for similar offenses.

The suspects were identified as Mirabela Caldarau, 42; Jajela Chiciu, 41; Flavia Caldararu, 22; Emilia Sardaru, 36; Mihaela Ion, 33; and Elizabeth Sardaru, 21. They face charges including breaking and entering during daytime, conspiracy, possession of burglarious instruments, and resisting arrest.

Community Reaction

A neighbor mentioned that there are usually no problems in the community. "45 years I’ve been here and there’s been no real problem," they said. "I’m happy nothing happened. Nobody got hurt. That’s the bottom line."

After an arraignment on Monday, police stated that three of the six women were released on bail and taken into Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody. Two men who arrived to post bail were also taken into ICE custody.

Ongoing Investigation

Three other suspects remain held at this time, police said. A preliminary investigation indicates the suspects are allegedly part of an organized group engaged in similar criminal activity across multiple states. All are related, including the two males who arrived to post bail.
