The body of Police Officer Didarul Islam, a devoted husband and hero who was tragically killed during a mass shooting in Midtown, was released to his family on Tuesday afternoon. “Our brother should have gone home to the Bronx last night to embrace his family,” Hendry said. “Instead, his fellow New York City police officers are carrying him home, and we are going to embrace his family as if they are our own.”

Draped in an NYPD flag, Officer Islam’s remains were wheeled out of the medical facility and into an awaiting ambulance. Fellow officers stood in salute as part of a convoy, marking the final journey of a man who gave everything for his community. His body was then transported to the Maajid Funeral Home in the Bronx, where preparations will begin for his final send-off.

Officer Islam was serving as part of a paid detail and was in full uniform during a security shift inside 345 Park Ave. when Shane Tamura entered the building and immediately opened fire, killing Officer Islam and three others before taking his own life. The tragic event has sparked renewed discussions about safety protocols and the risks faced by law enforcement officers every day.
