Beyoncé Faces Fan Backlash Over $100 Destiny's Child Shirt Price

Beyoncé's Merchandise Sparks Frustration Among Fans
Beyoncé has once again captured the attention of her fans, but this time it’s not entirely positive. Following a surprise reunion with Destiny’s Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams during the final show of her "Cowboy Carter" tour, the singer launched new merchandise celebrating the moment. However, some fans are expressing frustration over the high prices.
The official merchandise account, @ShopBeyonce, posted details about two new Destiny’s Child t-shirts from the "Cowboy Carter" tour. These shirts are priced at $70, excluding shipping and taxes. The cost has sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with many fans questioning the affordability of such items.
On Instagram, users shared humorous yet critical comments about the price. One fan wrote, “Girl, we need a rewards program at this point,” while another joked, “You need to start a Parkwood credit card or something, chile, I need points.” Another user added, “We need Parkwood Klarna or Parkwood Afterpay, this is INSANE.” Some fans even went as far as calling the pricing “harassment.”
Another comment read, “At this point, this is harassment!” while another quipped, “Beyoncé, the tour ended on Saturday. What is your problem?” These comments highlight the growing concern among fans about the frequency and cost of Beyoncé’s merchandise drops.
A More Serious Tone on Reddit
While some fans took a lighthearted approach, others on Reddit expressed genuine disappointment and frustration. One user questioned, “Brooo Beyoncé is annoying ... why didn't she drop this when she dropped all the other tees?” Another commented, “$70 recession dollars before shipping,” while another wrote, “Respectfully, $86 on a t-shirt is ridiculous. $70 plus, $16 for shipping and taxes is ridiculous.”
Some fans admitted they couldn’t justify the expense. One user stated, “As bad as I want to, I couldn't even do it.” Another, based in Canada, shared, “I'm sorry, but as a Canadian, I cannot justify spending this much on a t-shirt!!!”
Despite the backlash, Beyoncé has had plenty of reasons to celebrate. Her "Cowboy Carter" tour set a record as the highest-grossing country tour of all time after 32 shows across four months. She also broke records at major stadiums, including Los Angeles' SoFi Stadium and Chicago's Soldier Field. Additionally, her album made history by reaching the top of the Billboard 200, marking her eighth consecutive No. 1 album.
Criticism from the Country Music Industry
Not everyone in the music industry has praised Beyoncé’s country project. Country singer Luke Bryan questioned her intentions, and another artist, Gavin Adcock, criticized her album, stating, “That sh-t ain't country music, and it ain't never been country music, and it ain't never gonna be country music.”
Adcock later attempted to clarify his comments, acknowledging that he grew up listening to Beyoncé and remembered her 2013 halftime show as “pretty kick a-s.” However, he still insisted that he doesn’t believe her album should be labeled as country music, arguing that it doesn’t sound or feel like it.
He also expressed concerns about fairness, saying it’s unfair for artists who have dedicated their lives to the genre to compete with an album that stays at the top simply because of Beyoncé’s fame.
Beyoncé’s Perspective on Her Music
This isn’t the first time Beyoncé has faced criticism from the country music community. She referenced a similar experience after performing “Daddy Lessons” at the 2016 CMA Awards, which she suggested inspired her to explore the history of country music more deeply. In an Instagram post, she wrote, “Because of that experience, I did a deeper dive into the history of Country music and studied our rich musical archive.”
She continued, “It feels good to see how music can unite so many people around the world, while also amplifying the voices of some of the people who have dedicated so much of their lives educating on our musical history.” Beyoncé also addressed the criticisms she faced when entering the country genre, stating, “Act ii is a result of challenging myself and taking my time to bend and blend genres together to create this body of work.”
