Tragedy Strikes a Family in a Devastating Car Crash

A 4-month-old baby boy is currently in critical condition, with doctors indicating that he may not survive after a tragic car accident that claimed the lives of his parents. The incident occurred on August 7 when Syed Waheed, 35, and his wife Sana Begum, 27, were returning from a visit to Abu Dhabi with their three children. The family was traveling in a vehicle that hit a road divider before crashing into a pole. All three children were in the car during the crash.

The youngest child, a 4-month-old boy, suffered severe brain injuries and is now on a ventilator, with no signs of improvement. His two older sisters, Sidra, 7, and Sadia, 2, have fractures in their legs but are expected to be discharged from the hospital soon. According to Syed Mateen, the child's uncle, the baby’s condition remains dire. He stated that doctors have told the family that the infant may not survive.

“I can’t think properly, it’s too much of a shock to see the baby on a ventilator,” Mateen said. “There has been no improvement and doctors have told us that he may not survive.”

The family has not yet informed the children about the loss of their parents. “We haven’t told the children yet about their parents,” Mateen added. “How do you tell children this news? I will wait until my father comes here to talk to them about this.”

The baby’s maternal grandfather, Syed Ismail, was traveling from Hyderabad, India, where a funeral was held for the couple. He expressed his grief over the loss of his daughter and son-in-law. “They have left us, they are gone, we can do nothing. We can only pray to Allah for the children. I ask everyone to pray for my grandson, he is only 4 months old and has brain injuries,” Ismail said.

The parents’ remains were brought back to India with the help of the Indian Embassy, and they were laid to rest on August 9, just two days after the crash. The family is still coming to terms with the tragedy, as they had recently moved from Abu Dhabi to Al Ruwais, where they had lived for five years. They had been in the United Arab Emirates for roughly seven years.

Syed Mateen, who was the last person to see the parents before their deaths, described them as kind and generous individuals. “He would do anything for others, would give money if they needed and would never ask for it back. I learned from Waheed about helping others. He also knew how to handle critical situations,” Mateen said.

The family is now focused on planning for the future of the children. “They were the decision makers in our family and now they are gone,” Mateen said. “There is so much we need to plan for the education and future of the children.”

Ismail reflected on the loss of his "perfect" daughter, whose dream was to care for the children. “Her dreams were only for the children — they both wanted to give them the world,” he added.

As the family mourns the loss of their loved ones, they continue to seek support and prayers for the baby’s recovery. The tragedy has left an indelible mark on the family, and the community is rallying around them during this difficult time.
