Arkansas State Police Seek Public Help in Double Homicide Investigation
Arkansas State Police have released a photo of a man they consider a “person of interest” in a double homicide that occurred at Devil’s Den State Park. The incident took place on Saturday, July 26, when the couple, Clinton David Brink and Cristen Amanda Brink, were attacked while hiking with their two daughters.
The suspect is described as a white male with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a long-sleeved shirt with the sleeves rolled up, dark pants, a dark baseball cap, and sunglasses. He was carrying a black backpack and wearing fingerless gloves. It is believed he may have sustained an injury during the attack.
According to the Arkansas State Police (ASP), the suspect left the area in a black, four-door sedan—possibly a Mazda—with its license plate covered by tape. The vehicle could have been heading toward State Highway 170 or State Highway 220. Investigators are urging the public to come forward with any information that could help identify the man.
Family’s Statement and Appeal for Privacy
In response to the tragedy, the family of the victims released a statement on Monday, July 28, expressing their grief and requesting privacy during this difficult time. They asked anyone with information to contact authorities immediately. The couple is being remembered as heroes who protected their children during the attack.
“We ask that if anyone has any information at all that will help the investigation, to please contact the proper authorities immediately. Clinton and Cristen died heroes, protecting their little girls, and they deserve justice. They will forever live on in all of our hearts.”
Parks Department Affirms Commitment to Safety
The Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage, and Tourism issued a statement reaffirming its commitment to public safety. The department emphasized that the safety of guests and staff is its top priority. Park Rangers are trained law enforcement officers who patrol various areas within the parks, including campgrounds, trails, and waterways.
All Park Rangers have completed training through law enforcement academies and are equipped with emergency services skills such as search and rescue, first aid, CPR, and wildfire response. Many also participate in training officer programs to maintain readiness.
Details About the Day of the Incident
On the day of the incident, the couple was hiking with their two daughters, ages 7 and 9, when they were attacked. Fortunately, the children were not injured and are currently safe with family members.
At around 2:40 p.m., Arkansas State Police were notified of the double homicide. The Brinks were found dead on a walking trail, and the Criminal Investigation Division is now handling the case. Investigators are asking those who visited the park on Saturday to check their cellphone photos, videos, or GoPro footage for images of the suspect.
Residents near the park are also encouraged to report any security or game camera footage that might be relevant. The area where the incident occurred remains cordoned off and secured by law enforcement.
Updated Description of the Suspect
On Sunday, July 27, the Arkansas State Police updated the suspect’s description after receiving additional information. The suspect is now believed to have been wearing a long-sleeved shirt with the sleeves rolled up, rather than a tank top as previously reported. He is still described as a white male with a medium build, wearing dark pants, a dark ballcap, and sunglasses. He had a black backpack and was wearing fingerless gloves.
He was seen driving toward a park exit in a black, four-door sedan, possibly a Mazda, with a license plate covered by electrical or duct tape. Investigators are asking the public to contact ASP Troop L at (479) 751-6663 if they have any information about the suspect or his whereabouts.
Increased Law Enforcement Presence
Shea Lewis, Secretary of the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage, and Tourism, expressed deep sorrow over the events and stated that the safety of visitors and staff is the highest priority. The department has increased law enforcement presence in state parks, with Park Rangers serving as fully commissioned law enforcement officers.
Ongoing Investigation and Support from Officials
The investigation is ongoing, with Arkansas State Police collaborating with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners. Col. Mike Hagar of the Arkansas State Police thanked the public and media for their support and emphasized the use of all available resources to apprehend the suspect.
Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders also released a statement, expressing her heartbreak over the incident and stating that law enforcement would not rest until the perpetrator was brought to justice.
The deceased individuals have been transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for further examination to determine the manner and cause of death.
