80s Icon Shares Timeless Selfie, Fans Unanimous in Praise

The Iconic Molly Ringwald and Her Journey Through Fame
Molly Ringwald remains one of the most recognizable faces from the 1980s, thanks to her starring roles in iconic films like The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, and Sixteen Candles. With her curly red hair and relatable, girl-next-door image, she became a defining figure of the decade, often associated with the work of director John Hughes. Her influence on pop culture during that era is still felt today.
A Timeless Beauty
Even after more than four decades in the spotlight, Molly continues to captivate fans with her timeless beauty. On Monday, she shared a selfie on her Instagram account that immediately drew praise from her followers. The photo showed her posing in a white halter-neck sundress, with her signature red curls framing her face. She captioned it, "Summer ending vibes," which quickly sparked an outpouring of admiration.
Fans flooded the comments section with messages of appreciation. One wrote, "Oh my God, Molly! You look fabulous," while another added, "Aging in reverse! So beautiful!!" Another fan exclaimed, "Stop Miss Molly howwwwww do you look so amaze????" and a fourth commented, "Queen of the '80s." These reactions highlight how deeply her fans still connect with her.
The Challenges of Fame
Despite her success, Molly has spoken openly about the difficulties that came with being a young star in the 1980s. In an interview on the Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky podcast, she discussed why she eventually left the U.S. for France in the 1990s. "I've never known a world where I haven't been a little famous," she said. "At a certain point, I became really, really famous. When you're on the cover of Time magazine, I think when it gets to that point, then it becomes a level of fame that I, personally, don't feel that comfortable with."
She admitted that the pressure of fame affected her personality, making her more guarded and self-protective. "Maybe this is just who I am, but there was a part of it where I became very closed and very self-protective in a way that a lot of people misinterpreted — people thought that I was aloof or stuck up, and it wasn't, it was fear and being very self-protective," she explained. This change happened during her teenage years, as she began working on John Hughes' films.
A Turning Point
One particularly traumatic experience led to a major life change for Molly. She was once trapped in a hotel revolving door by paparazzi, unable to escape the constant camera flashes. This incident left her with lasting trauma, prompting her to move to France in 1992. There, she worked on French films and theater productions for several years before gradually returning to Hollywood.
A New Chapter
In 1999, Molly married writer Valery Lameignère, but the marriage ended three years later. She later married writer Panio Gianopoulos in 2007, and the couple has two children: Mathilda, 21, and twins Adele and Roman, who are 16. As a mother, Molly has made some tough decisions regarding her children's futures. She revealed in an interview with The Times that she kept her daughter Mathilda from becoming a child actress, despite her daughter’s desire to follow in her footsteps. "She fought us on that — she's still kind of mad about it, but it was the right decision," Molly said. "I don't think that professional acting is a great way for kids to grow up. It's way too stressful, and it's a crap shoot on whether or not the kids can make it through."
Continuing to Shine
At 57, Molly continues to be active in the entertainment industry. She recently appeared in Ryan Murphy's Feud: Capote vs the Swans and gained a new generation of fans by playing Archie Andrews’ mother on Netflix’s Riverdale series. Her career remains a testament to her resilience and enduring appeal.
