28 Pennsylvania Hospitals Named Among the Best by U.S. News

Top Regional Hospitals in Pennsylvania Recognized Nationally

U.S. News & World Report recently released its 2025-2026 list of the best regional hospitals in the nation, highlighting more than two dozen facilities across Pennsylvania. This ranking evaluates hospitals based on their performance in 15 adult specialties, as well as their expertise in surgical procedures and treatment of medical conditions.

Among the top-ranked institutions in the state are three Penn State Health hospitals: the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Holy Spirit Medical Center, and St. Joseph Medical Center. These hospitals have also received national recognition in specific specialties such as gastroenterology and GI surgery, orthopedics, and ear, nose, and throat care.

Dr. Michael Kupferman, CEO of Penn State Health, emphasized the significance of this recognition, stating, “This is a direct reflection of the high-quality care our physicians, nurses, and staff deliver every day.” He expressed his admiration for the dedication and commitment to excellence demonstrated by the hospital’s teams.

The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center was ranked #1 in the Harrisburg metro region and #6 in Pennsylvania. Additionally, Select Medical, based in Mechanicsburg, received acknowledgment for several of its inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, including the joint venture at the Penn State Health Rehabilitation Hospital in Hummelstown.

Tom Mullin, president of Select Medical, noted, “This year’s placement of eight hospitals across 15 locations marks our highest rankings yet, which reflects the expertise, compassion, and dedication our teams bring to patient care daily.” He added that the continued presence on this prestigious list highlights the organization's focus on quality, safety, and exceptional patient experiences.
