10 Hidden Gem Prime Video Movies You Should Watch

Exploring Hidden Gems on Prime Video
Prime Video has been producing its own original movies since 2018, and like other streaming services, the results have been a mix of hits and misses. While some films have gained widespread attention, others have flown under the radar despite their quality. These overlooked movies are worth exploring for anyone looking to discover something new and unique.
Emergency (2022) – A Misunderstanding Leads To A Wild Night
Based on a short film of the same name, Emergency tackles a sensitive issue in America. The story follows three college students—two Black and one Hispanic—who find an unconscious white teenage girl in their dorm room before heading to a party. As they grapple with the situation, they decide not to call the police, fearing racial profiling. This leads to a night filled with mishaps, danger, and a tense encounter with law enforcement.
The film features strong performances from RJ Cyler, Donald Elise Watkins, and Sebastian Chacon, while Sabrina Carpenter plays Maddy, a friend of the unconscious girl who suspects the worst. Although not a big movie, Emergency received a Best First Screenplay nomination at the Independent Spirit Awards.
Something From Tiffany's (2022) – A Welcome Holiday Rom-Com
Many people dismiss lighthearted romantic comedies, especially those that feel like Hallmark movies. Something From Tiffany's, based on a novel of the same name, is one such film that was overlooked by many Prime Video subscribers. The story follows two people whose lives intertwine when a man’s engagement ring is accidentally given to a woman in a mix-up, leading to a romantic connection.
While the premise isn’t groundbreaking, the chemistry between Zoey Deutch and Kendrick Sampson carries the film. At just 87 minutes, it’s an easy and enjoyable watch that deserves more recognition.
Sylvie's Love (2020) – Tessa Thompson Shines In A Touching Romance
Set in New York City during the 1960s, Sylvie's Love follows the titular character as she falls in love with an aspiring saxophone player. The film showcases their romance across time, locations, and changes in their professions. Tessa Thompson delivers a brilliant performance, earning a Critics' Choice Award nomination. The film was also nominated for Outstanding Television Movie at the Primetime Emmys.
I'm Your Woman (2020) – Rachel Brosnahan Stars In A Neo-Noir Crime Film
Rachel Brosnahan delivers a standout performance in I'm Your Woman, a neo-noir crime film set in the 1970s. She portrays Jean, a woman on the run after her husband goes missing and she discovers he was involved in organized crime. Julia Hart directs with skill, following her work on Miss Stevens and Fast Color. Despite not receiving many awards, the film was a critical hit and currently holds an 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Música (2024) – A Creative Rom-Com Fueled By Music
Música is a unique take on the romantic comedy genre, centered around Rudy, a man with synesthesia who hears music in everyday sounds. The film explores his journey to find love in New Jersey with a woman named Isabella. Rudy Mancuso, who also directed and co-wrote the film, stars as the lead. His chemistry with Camila Mendes and J.B. Smoove adds to the film’s charm.
Merry Little Batman (2023) – The Caped Crusader In An Animated Christmas Tale
The Vast Of Night (2019) – A Gripping Sci-Fi Flick About Aliens Set In The '50s
If any Amazon Prime Original movie deserved to be a bigger hit than it was, it's The Vast of Night. The sci-fi movie takes place in New Mexico during the 1950s and is loosely based on the Foss Lake disappearances and the Kecksburg UFO incident. The film focuses on a switchboard operator and radio DJ who uncover a mysterious radio frequency. The movie truly shines thanks to first-time director Andrew Patterson, who creates an eerie atmosphere and includes one of the most impressive tracking shots you'll ever see in a movie. Whether it's the cinematography, the writing, or the performances, The Vast of Night is a special film.
