Tulsi Gabbard Struggles to Share New Info on Obama
The Trump Administration's Claims About Obama
The Trump administration has made several claims regarding former President Barack Obama, but these allegations have not been substantiated with solid evidence. At a recent White House press briefing, the Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, accused Obama of orchestrating a “coup” against Donald Trump’s political ambitions. However, her statements lacked substantial proof.
During the briefing, a reporter asked Gabbard what new evidence she had to refute previous investigations into the matter. Gabbard responded by emphasizing her role in ensuring that the intelligence community remains non-political and that the American people are informed of the truth. She encouraged the media and the public to examine the documents she had released—approximately 200 pages of material that supposedly supported her claims.
Gabbard stated that the documents included references and examples from senior intelligence professionals who still work within the agencies. These individuals, according to her, confirmed the conclusions that the intelligence community had drawn: that President Obama directed an assessment to create a false narrative that undermined Trump’s presidency. She urged the media to conduct honest journalism and for the public to review the evidence for themselves.
When pressed on whether previous investigations, including those led by special counsel Robert Mueller and a bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee under Marco Rubio, had missed or covered up the alleged coup, Gabbard simply replied, “Look at the evidence, and you will know the truth.”
Last week, Gabbard declassified a September 2020 report from the House Intelligence Committee. She used this document as evidence to support her claim that Obama had pushed for an Intelligence Community Assessment to be released in January 2017, just before Trump’s inauguration. Before releasing the report, Gabbard tweeted that Americans would finally learn the truth about how Obama had, in her view, “invented” the Trump-Russia “hoax.”
Trump embraced this theory, using it as a distraction from his own scandals. When asked about his reported ties to Jeffrey Epstein, a pedophilic sex trafficker, Trump claimed that the only “witch hunt” the press should focus on is the one where he alleged his administration “caught” Obama “absolutely cold” trying to “rig” the 2020 election.
Obama’s spokesperson, Patrick Rodenbush, criticized the administration’s allegations, calling them a “weak attempt at distraction.” He emphasized that nothing in the recently released document contradicted the widely accepted conclusion that Russia tried to influence the 2016 election but did not manipulate any votes. Rodenbush also pointed out that any treason charges would implicate Rubio, the second-highest-ranking official in Trump’s Cabinet.
When asked about the legal implications of charging Obama with treason, given his presidential immunity, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that she trusted the Justice Department to handle the matter appropriately.
