Trump Mocks Fox's Jessica Tarlov Over Gun Control and Tragedy Tribute

Trump Criticizes Fox News Host Amid Gun Control Discussion
Fox News host Jessica Tarlov found herself at the center of a controversy when former President Donald Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to express his frustration with her. In a post dated Tuesday, Trump wrote, “I can’t stand Jessica Tarlov of THE FIVE. A real loser!!! DJT.” The comment came as Tarlov was on air, delivering a somber reflection on the victims of a recent shooting in New York City.
At the time of the incident, Tarlov was speaking about the tragic event that occurred the day before, which claimed the lives of two women, Julia Hyman and Wesley LePatner. She shared personal connections to the victims, stating that she knew people who knew them. “I’m completely devastated and heartbroken by this. It’s, you know, where I grew up. I know people who know both of the female victims,” she said, adding, “Julia Hyman, only four years out of college, just getting started. Wesley LePatner’s two children away at camp. And this is the news that they get on a phone call.”
Tarlov also spoke about the loss of an officer, Officer Islam, who had two children and an eight-month pregnant wife. “Unimaginable. I don’t know how women go through this. And I know that this happens with a lot of couples where someone is serving, you know, at home or abroad. I don’t know how you carry on a pregnancy when you have lost your partner like that. And I wish her all the strength in the world.”
Political Commentary and Gun Control Debate
In addition to discussing the emotional impact of the tragedy, Tarlov shifted the conversation toward politics and gun control. She praised New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch for her leadership and expressed hope that she might run for office again in the future. “I feel that she embodies the grace and the professionalism and the efficiency that Mayor Bloomberg did, and I would welcome that,” Tarlov said.
She also addressed the issue of gun control, referencing New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s comments on the effectiveness of the assault weapons ban from 1994 to 2004. “We saw a decrease in mass shootings in this country. 70% less likely to happen. And then when the ban sunsetted, it spiked back up. That’s what she’s talking about,” Tarlov explained. She added that while it may seem extreme to some, considering ways to prevent such tragedies is not a step backward.
Tarlov emphasized that while it is impossible to stop all acts of violence, preventing one such incident could save lives. “You will never be able to stop all of the lunatics. But if you stopped this one, we’d have four people that were alive today who certainly deserve to be. And I don’t see why that’s a bad thing to do.”
Addressing Misinformation and Media Responsibility
The discussion also touched on the role of media in reporting on the incident. Tarlov noted that there was initial misinformation about the perpetrator’s background, with many assuming he was of Middle Eastern descent. However, she pointed out that the individual was actually an American with a mixed racial background. “Yeah, that’s social media though. CNN should know better,” she said, responding to a comment from Greg Gutfeld.
This exchange highlighted the challenges of accurate reporting in the age of social media, where information spreads rapidly and often without verification. Tarlov’s remarks underscored the importance of responsible journalism, especially when covering sensitive topics like gun violence and public safety.
As the conversation continued, Tarlov’s blend of empathy, political insight, and critical analysis provided a nuanced perspective on the complex issues surrounding the tragedy. Her comments reflected not only her personal connection to the victims but also her commitment to addressing the broader societal implications of such events.
