Trump's Dispute with Jeffrey Epstein Over Spa Staff

President Donald Trump has recently shared details about his falling out with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, revealing that the rift was partly due to Epstein's recruitment of staff from Trump's Mar-a-Lago spa. Trump also mentioned that one of the individuals who accused Epstein of sex trafficking had previously worked at his Palm Beach resort.

During a press interaction, Trump stated that the spa workers Epstein "stole" from him were involved in the resort's operations, and among them was Virginia Giuffre, a former attendant at Mar-a-Lago. Giuffre had previously given a deposition in a defamation lawsuit against Ghislaine Maxwell, an associate of Epstein. In her testimony, she claimed she was forced as a teenager to have sexual encounters with powerful men. According to the lawsuit, Giuffre alleged she was directed to have sex with Prince Andrew of Britain. However, Prince Andrew has denied these allegations.

Giuffre passed away by suicide in April of this year. She is the only individual Trump has named since he claimed to have ended his friendship with Epstein. Trump explained that the reason for the break was because Epstein had taken workers from his businesses.

Insights into the Spa Workers

Trump acknowledged on July 29 that some of the spa workers at Mar-a-Lago were young women. Initially, he hesitated to provide specifics, stating, "Everyone knows the people that were taken." However, he later confirmed that young women were indeed involved, telling a reporter, "The answer is yes, they were."

When asked about the role of the workers, Trump described them as being "in the spa." He emphasized that Mar-a-Lago has one of the best spas in the world and that people were taken from there—hired by Epstein, in other words. "People that work in the spa. I have a great spa, one of the best spas in the world at Mar-a-Lago, and people were taken out of the spa – hired by him, in other words – gone," he said.

Virginia Giuffre and Epstein

Trump was asked if Virginia Giuffre was one of the people Epstein had hired. At first, he responded, "I don't know." After a brief pause, he added, "I think so, I think that was one of the people, yeah. He stole her. And by the way, she had no complaints about us."

Trump could not specify how many spa workers Epstein had recruited from his business, noting that the incident occurred many years ago. He mentioned that after Epstein received an initial warning, "he took some others, and once he did that, that was the end of him."

"When they steal people, I don't like it," Trump said, highlighting his disapproval of such actions.

Background on Trump's Relationship with Epstein

The White House previously indicated that Trump ended his friendship with Epstein, who CNN reported attended the president's second wedding to Marla Maples, because the financier was a "creep." Trump told reporters on July 29 that the two explanations were essentially the same.

Trump has faced significant pressure to clarify his relationship with Epstein and release documents related to the government's investigation into Epstein's alleged sex crimes. His most recent comments came after Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein's codefendant, agreed to provide testimony to a congressional committee in response to a subpoena if the panel granted her immunity. Maxwell was convicted in 2021 of sex trafficking and appealed to the Supreme Court on July 28.
