Top Blockers in Greater Cincinnati Girls High School Volleyball Ahead of 2025

As the 2025 high school volleyball season approaches, The Enquirer is taking a closer look at the top players in various positions across Greater Cincinnati. This latest feature focuses on the city’s most formidable blockers—athletes who can change the momentum of a game with a single well-timed block.

Blockers are essential to any successful volleyball team. Their ability to read the opponent’s attack and react quickly can disrupt the flow of an offensive play and energize their own squad. These players not only contribute to their team's success but also provide some of the most thrilling moments in the sport.

Here are some of the standout blockers to watch this season:

Jillian Forrest, Ursuline

Jillian Forrest made a name for herself as a sophomore by finishing second in blocks in the Girls Greater Catholic League with 92 blocks, along with 195 kills and 38 digs. Despite her team’s inconsistent performance over the past few years, Forrest has remained a consistent force. She is already verbally committed to the University of Washington, showing her potential for future success.

Sydney Geselbracht, Mount Notre Dame

Geselbracht led the Cougars with 56 blocks and 215 kills last season. Her 116-inch approach touch allows her to be a constant presence at the net, both offensively and defensively. Her agility and ability to float in midair make her a challenging opponent. She will continue her career at Binghamton University.

Morgan Justice, Scott

Morgan Justice, a junior, was the top blocker for the Eagles with 66 blocks, while also recording 275 kills, 179 digs, and 39 aces. Her performance helped elevate the team’s expectations for the 2025 season. She has committed to Thomas More University, where she will continue to develop her skills.

Violet Main, St. Henry

Main, a freshman, was one of the top performers for the Crusaders, finishing second on the team with 68 blocks and contributing more than 200 kills. She was named to the Ninth Region all-tournament team and is expected to be a key player this season despite the loss of two senior linchpins.

Charley Moeddel, Seton

Moeddel faced a setback when she broke her left hand before her sophomore season, but she still managed to record 54 blocks and 127 kills. At 6-foot-1, her height gives her a natural advantage at the net, and she is expected to continue improving this season.

Addy Nutley, Mason

Nutley led the Greater Miami Conference with 56 blocks in 2024, while also posting 164 kills, 56 digs, and 23 aces. Her ability to consistently put up multiple blocks in a match makes her a valuable asset. She is committed to Hillsdale College and is expected to lead the Comets in both blocking and attacking plays.

Andrea Ptaszkiewicz, Fenwick

As a freshman, Ptaszkiewicz played the most sets for the Falcons and recorded 51 blocks and 96 kills. While she is still developing her overall game, her potential is clear, and she could become a standout player in the coming years.

Sophia Richardson, Kings

Richardson has a chance to follow in the footsteps of Jules Fink, who led the Eastern Cincinnati Conference in blocks for three consecutive seasons. As a junior, she tallied 98 blocks, 276 kills, and 49 aces. With a strong foundation, she is poised for another impressive season.

Morgan Sunderman, Roger Bacon

Sunderman was one of two Spartans to record 42 blocks last season. She also contributed 130 kills. With several key players graduating, she will play a crucial role at the net this year.

Lilly Tierney, McNicholas

Tierney had a breakout season, leading the Greater Catholic League-Coed with 101 blocks, 56 aces, and 201 kills. Her versatility and ability to dig attacks make her a complete player. McNicholas is expected to be a strong contender for the state title this season.
