Suspect in $395K Ferrari Theft Case 'In the Wind,' Prosecutor Says

Missing Suspect in Luxury Car Theft Case Raises Concerns
One of the individuals accused of stealing two high-end vehicles from a Ferrari dealership in Greenwich has vanished after being arrested as a fugitive earlier this month, according to state prosecutors. The case has sparked confusion and concern among law enforcement and legal officials.
Lauren Webb, 27, was set to appear in court in Stamford on Wednesday in connection with the theft of two Mercedes-Benz G-Class vehicles valued at $395,000 from Ferrari of Greenwich on West Putnam Avenue in November 2023. However, when her case was called, neither her attorney nor the prosecutor could provide any information about her whereabouts.
Assistant State’s Attorney Michelle Manning revealed that Webb had recently been arrested by Milford police as a fugitive of justice after failing to appear in Florida for an unrelated case. Despite this arrest, there is no record of her being held in Connecticut or being extradited to Florida. One possibility is that she posted bond and is now free. However, Manning noted that Webb is under GPS monitoring, and if she was released, she should have been provided with the necessary tracking device. “We don’t know where she is,” Manning said. “She’s out in the wind.”
Webb’s case was given a short continuance until Monday as both attorneys attempt to locate her. If she remains missing by then, Manning plans to ask a judge to issue a rearrest order.
Webb is one of three suspects charged in the Greenwich luxury car thefts. Reheem Spencer, 28, and Shemoya Gayle, 20, are also facing conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny charges. Together, they are suspected of more than $1 million in car thefts across the country, according to their arrest warrants.
According to the warrants, Webb, Gayle, Spencer, and an unidentified individual were involved in similar schemes in at least two other states. They are also believed to have targeted multiple dealerships in various locations.
Police believe the Greenwich theft was part of a larger scheme involving grand theft auto operations across several states, resulting in over $900,000 in stolen vehicles. In addition to the Greenwich thefts, the group is suspected of stealing two Lamborghinis from McLaren of Boston and visiting Lamborghini of Philadelphia on November 28, 2023.
Detective Chris LiBasci of Greenwich Police confirmed that the suspects were linked to the Boston thefts. He stated that the group used a similar method: individuals posing as potential buyers entered the dealership, stole key fobs, and replaced them with fake ones. Later that night, they returned and stole the cars, which were later found in Texas.
The suspects also targeted other high-end dealerships in Greenwich, including McLaren of Greenwich and Rolls Royce of Greenwich. A fourth, unidentified woman was seen entering Lamborghini of Greenwich, and the owners reported seeing members of the group at their Philadelphia location three days later.
Earlier in the year, in July 2023, Gayle, Spencer, and Webb were detained in Pickens County, Georgia, for reckless driving in a stolen BMW worth nearly $80,000. During this incident, Gayle and Webb admitted to swapping fake keys with real ones at a dealership to steal the car. This method mirrored the theft at Miller Motorcars’ Ferrari dealership.
Gayle reportedly told police she agreed to steal the car in exchange for $2,000 from Webb. The case continues to unfold as investigators work to track down all suspects and recover stolen vehicles.
