José Ramírez Powers Guardians to 10-5 Victory Over Orioles

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cleveland Guardians made a strong statement in their matchup against the Baltimore Orioles on Monday, with José Ramírez leading the charge. His three-run home run in the first inning set the tone for a night where the Guardians' offense consistently put pressure on the Orioles’ pitching staff.

Ramírez’s 20th home run of the season came off the bat of Tomoyuki Sugano, tying the game and giving the seven-time All-Star 55 RBI this season. The blast was just the beginning of a dominant performance from the Guardians, who extended their streak of consecutive games with a home run to 11. Bo Naylor added a solo home run in the fifth inning, and Kyle Manzardo delivered a decisive blow in the sixth, putting Cleveland ahead for good.

Naylor praised Ramírez's ability to perform under pressure, noting that his presence at the plate gives the team confidence. “A guy like that, he really wants those moments,” Naylor said. “It’s comforting for the guys in the dugout to know that he lives for those moments.”

Ramírez continues to make history, joining Pete Crow-Armstrong as the only major leaguers with at least 20 home runs and 20 steals this season. This marks his fifth consecutive 20/20 season and seventh overall, placing him among the elite in baseball history.

Guardians manager Stephen Vogt spoke highly of Ramírez, emphasizing the consistency and longevity of his performance. “The consistency of 20/20, keeping your body fresh to be able to do it, the longevity that he’s done it for, it just is so impressive,” Vogt said.

Tanner Bibee provided solid starting pitching despite a rocky first inning, finishing seven strong innings. He picked up his second consecutive win after losing his previous five decisions. The Guardians’ offense capitalized on opportunities, scoring four runs in the seventh inning and drawing eight walks in the process.

Brayan Rocchio had a standout game, driving in nine RBI in 17 games since returning from Triple-A Columbus. Carlos Santana contributed with a two-out RBI single, while Steven Kwan walked three times and collected two base hits.

Despite leaving 15 runners on base, the Guardians were efficient when they had runners in scoring position. Naylor’s 10th home run came on a first-pitch curveball, marking his first since June 9. His earlier base hit off the wall in right field ended an 0-for-18 slump, though the Guardians left the bases loaded when Manzardo grounded out.

On the other side, the Orioles struggled to contain the Guardians’ offense. Gunnar Henderson drove in his 35th run with a bloop single, and Ramon Laureano added two more with an RBI single. However, a defensive error by Carlos Santana allowed Laureano to hit a two-run home run, giving Baltimore a brief lead.

Vogt commended Bibee for his resilience, noting that he kept the team in the game despite a difficult start. “There’s a couple of times he could have broken tonight and he didn’t,” Vogt said. “He kept us in the game, went deep, gave us seven strong, and obviously the guys added on at the end.”

Monday’s victory marked the 10th time this season the Guardians have scored at least 10 runs. They are now 9-2 in the 11 games since their 10-game losing streak, moving back above .500 for the first time since June 28.

Bibee described the losing streak as one of the toughest stretches of his career but emphasized the team’s belief in each other. “We all knew it was going to swing back our way eventually,” he said. “That’s the struggle of such a long season, trying to figure out who we are and ride the wave.”

The series will continue Tuesday with a 6:40 p.m. first pitch from Progressive Field. Left-hander Joey Cantillo will start for Cleveland, while the Orioles will counter with righty Brandon Young. The game will be broadcast on CLEGuardians.tv, WTAM 1100 AM, WMMS 100.7 FM, WARF 1350 AM (Spanish), and the Guardians Radio Network.
