What to Know About the Upcoming Pixel 10 Pro Fold

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 is now available for preorder and will be shipped to customers in the coming days. However, if you haven’t placed your order yet, it might be worth waiting a little while. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 isn’t the only high-end foldable phone making waves this summer. Google is set to reveal its Pixel 10 series, which includes the Pixel 10 Pro Fold model.

Leaks about the Pixel 10 have been circulating for some time, giving us a clear idea of what to expect from Google’s next foldable flagship. The latest leak provides key specifications that could give the Pixel 10 Pro Fold an edge over the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

A New Level of Durability

One of the most notable features of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is its potential IP68 rating, which would make it the first foldable phone to achieve this level of water and dust resistance. If accurate, this would be a significant upgrade compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which only has an IP48 rating. This means the Pixel 10 Pro Fold would be better protected against smaller particles that can damage internal components.

This development is particularly important because many traditional smartphones already come with IP68 ratings. For foldable phones, however, dust resistance has been a long-standing issue. Samsung kept the Galaxy Z Fold 7 at the same IP48 rating as its predecessor, leaving it vulnerable to smaller debris.

Enhanced Battery Life

Another major advantage of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is its larger battery capacity. According to recent leaks, the new foldable will feature a 5,015 mAh battery, a 7% increase over its predecessor. This is a significant improvement, especially when compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which retains the same 4,400 mAh battery as the previous model despite being thinner.

Google has also opted not to use silicon-carbon battery technology, which has been popularized by Chinese manufacturers like Honor. The Honor Magic V5, for example, uses a massive 6,100 mAh battery. Instead, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold will rely on a more standard approach, though it still promises improved performance and efficiency.

Powerful Performance

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold will be powered by the new 3nm Tensor G5 processor, paired with 16GB of RAM. Storage options will range from 256GB to 1TB, marking the first time a foldable phone offers up to 1TB of storage. This is a big step forward for Google, as previous models topped out at 512GB.

While the Galaxy Z Fold 7 features the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, which is known for its power and efficiency, the Tensor G5 is expected to deliver strong performance. It will be interesting to see how well the G5 handles demanding tasks and whether it can match or exceed the performance of its competitors.

Improved Display and Camera Features

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold will also feature a slightly larger external display than the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, measuring 6.4 inches. This is a 0.1-inch increase from the previous model, along with a peak brightness boost to 3,000 nits—up 10% from the last generation.

On the camera side, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold will maintain a similar setup, with a triple-lens rear camera system featuring 48-megapixel wide, 10.5-megapixel ultra-wide, and 10.8-megapixel zoom lenses. The front-facing cameras will include two 10-megapixel sensors, capable of capturing high-quality selfies even through the foldable screen.

What to Expect Next

Google is expected to officially confirm the Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s IP68 rating during its mid-August hardware event. This could signal a shift in the foldable phone market, encouraging other manufacturers to prioritize dust and water resistance in future models.

With these improvements, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold seems poised to challenge the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in several key areas. Whether it can truly outperform its competitor remains to be seen, but the leaked specs suggest a compelling upgrade for those considering a new foldable device.
