NFC East Update: Giants Name Russell Wilson as Starting QB

Russell Wilson Named Starting QB for the Giants as Training Camp Begins
The New York Giants have officially named Russell Wilson as their starting quarterback as they kick off training camp. Head coach Brian Daboll confirmed this decision during a press conference, emphasizing that while all quarterbacks will be competing, Wilson is the clear choice to lead the team this season.
Wilson, who joined the Giants in a blockbuster trade last year, brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the roster. Alongside him, the Giants have also signed Jameis Winston and selected Jaxson Dart in the first round of this year’s draft. Additionally, Tommy DeVito remains on the team, providing depth at the position.
Dart’s development is expected to be a key focus throughout the season. The Giants traded back into the first round to secure his selection with the 25th overall pick. However, his opportunity to play in regular-season games will depend on both his progress and Wilson’s performance.
In an ideal scenario, Dart may not see much action, allowing him to learn from more experienced players. General manager Joe Schoen highlighted the benefits of sitting and learning from veteran quarterbacks, but he also noted that if the coaching staff determines it’s the right time, Dart could be given the chance to prove himself.
Eagles Make Scouting Department Changes with Return of Joe Douglas
The Philadelphia Eagles have made several personnel changes within their scouting department, including the return of Joe Douglas. Douglas, who was previously fired as the Jets’ general manager in November, has been appointed as senior personnel director and adviser to the general manager.
Douglas, who turned 49 on Sunday, spent four years with the Eagles from 2016 to 2019, where he developed a strong relationship with general manager Howie Roseman. He was hired by the Jets in 2019 but was let go after a disappointing season that extended the Jets’ playoff drought to 14 years.
His return to the Eagles comes as no surprise, given his long-standing connection with Roseman. Douglas has also worked under Hall of Famer Ozzie Newsome with the Ravens and spent time with the Bears before joining the Eagles. He has won three Super Bowl rings, including one with the Ravens and two with the Eagles.
In addition to Douglas’ return, the Eagles promoted Ryan Myers to director of college scouting. Myers has been with the team since 2013 and has held various roles, including pro personnel coordinator and area scout. His promotion reflects the team’s commitment to strengthening its scouting efforts.
Terry McLaurin Aims to Keep Commanders Whole Amid Contract Dispute
Terry McLaurin, the Washington Commanders’ star receiver and team captain, is working to resolve his contract situation without disrupting the team. Despite not yet deciding whether he will attend training camp or request a trade, McLaurin has emphasized his desire to bring a deal together rather than break the team apart.
McLaurin skipped mandatory minicamp this offseason, drawing attention from fans and media alike. If necessary, he is open to exploring options such as a holdout, hold-in, or even a trade request. However, he is taking things day-by-day, hoping to hear from the Commanders soon.
McLaurin, who is entering the final season of his three-year, $68.4 million contract, has expressed frustration over the lack of communication from the team. He is currently set to make approximately $19.7 million this season, which pales in comparison to deals like Ja’Marr Chase’s $40.2 million per year contract with the Bengals.
While McLaurin’s deal is unlikely to match Chase’s, he is looking for a contract similar to DK Metcalf’s new deal with the Steelers, which pays $33 million annually. As the team prepares for training camp, all eyes will be on McLaurin to see how he navigates this critical period in his career.
