Co-Parenting with Nick Cannon: Mariah Carey’s Approach

Mariah Carey, known for her iconic music career and powerful presence, has been open about how she manages co-parenting with her ex-husband, Nick Cannon. The two share a unique relationship, as they are the parents of twins, Moroccan and Monroe, who are 14 years old. Their six-year marriage ended in 2014, but despite the challenges, both have maintained a strong commitment to their children.

Carey has always emphasized fairness and balance in raising their kids together. In a recent interview, she reflected on the dynamics of their shared parenting arrangement. “How do I say this?” she mused, before explaining that both she and Cannon ensure their children have positive experiences with each of them. “They spend time with him, and they have a good time; they spend time with me, and they have a good time.”

Her approach stems from understanding the difficulties of growing up with divorced parents. As a mother of two, she is determined to create a stable environment where her children feel loved and supported. “I want to make sure I'm always fair about the situation because it's tough to grow up with divorced parents,” she said, highlighting her dedication to maintaining a neutral and balanced co-parenting relationship.

Nick Cannon’s Journey with NPD

Nick Cannon’s journey has not been without its struggles. Nearly a year after he was diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder (NPD), he has been open about his mental health challenges. On his podcast, “Counsel Culture,” he discussed his diagnosis and admitted that he was seeking help. He described NPD as a condition characterized by grandiosity, an excessive need for admiration, and a lack of empathy.

Despite the complexity of his condition, Cannon has taken steps to understand and manage it. “I still don't understand it all the way, but I kind of always wanted to get tested for it. I did a bunch of tests,” he admitted. He also revealed that he has been diagnosed with ADHD and had issues with dyslexia as a child. “Knowing that I'm just a neurodivergent individual, I kind of always knew,” he added.

Embracing Mental Health and Change

Cannon has made a conscious effort to improve his life since his diagnosis. He has committed to therapy and has become an advocate for mental health awareness. “I feel like there's so many labels out there, but it's like, to be able to embrace it and say, 'Look, I'm healing. I need help. Show me.' I just embrace mental health and therapy in such a strong way,” he shared.

He also expressed a desire to be an example for others while undergoing his own healing process. “To be able to say I'm an example for others, but also be healing during the self-process works too,” he said. His openness about his struggles has helped reduce the stigma surrounding mental health and encouraged others to seek support.

Reflecting on the Past

Cannon has also spoken about the challenges he faced during his marriage to Mariah Carey. The couple met in 2008 and were married for six years before separating in 2014. During their relationship, he admitted to struggling with insecurities and feelings of inadequacy. “I would lay up at night thinking, like, 'Is this who I am? Am I Mariah's man? Is that what my life is supposed to be?'” he recalled.

He also mentioned the difficulty of navigating the hierarchy within their family after the birth of their children. Despite these challenges, he has grown and learned from his experiences, using them as motivation to improve himself and his relationships.

Mariah Carey’s New Musical Projects

While Carey focuses on co-parenting, she continues to thrive in her music career. She recently teased a new track from her upcoming 16th album, which has generated excitement among fans. On Instagram, she shared a video of herself baking in the kitchen, accompanied by a snippet of the song “Sugar Sweet.” Fans immediately praised the track, calling it the song of the summer.
