The Milwaukee Brewers' Historic Winning Streaks

With their 10th straight win on Sunday, the Brewers are now just two victories away from achieving a legendary milestone in franchise history: 12 consecutive wins. This achievement would trigger one of the most iconic promotions in Milwaukee—free burgers from George Webb restaurants. The streak is already making waves and fans are eager to see if the team can push further.

This is only the 12th time that the Brewers have managed to secure nine or more consecutive wins, and they will look to extend their run when they travel to Seattle starting July 21. Let’s take a closer look at some of the longest winning streaks in the team's history.

1987: A Season-Defining 13-Game Win Streak

One of the most memorable stretches in Brewers history came in 1987 when the team won the first 13 games of the season. Their winning ways culminated with an unforgettable Easter Sunday walk-off victory over the Texas Rangers on April 19. Rob Deer and Dale Sveum both homered in the bottom of the ninth inning, helping Milwaukee rally back from a three-run deficit to win 6-4.

That win marked the 12th in the streak, which was enough to guarantee free burgers for everyone from George Webb. The team followed up with another win the next day against the White Sox before suffering their first loss of the season.

During this period, Juan Nieves threw the first no-hitter in Brewers history, a 7-0 win over Baltimore on April 15. However, the team soon faced challenges, losing 12 straight games from May 3-19. By May 29, they were back to a 22-21 record.

Paul Molitor’s 39-game hitting streak became a talking point during the summer, but it ended on August 26 when he stood on deck during Rick Manning’s game-winning single. Later in the season, Teddy Higuera pitched 32 straight scoreless innings, including a complete-game one-hitter, but the Brewers finished with 91 wins, falling short of the postseason.

2018: A Postseason-Linked 12-Game Win Streak

The 2018 season saw the Brewers achieve a 12-game winning streak, which crossed into the postseason. They clinched the National League Central with an unforgettable "Game 163" at Wrigley Field in Chicago. The team then swept the Colorado Rockies in the National League Division Series and won Game 1 of the NLCS against the Dodgers.

Despite the electric energy, the Dodgers eventually defeated the Brewers in a seven-game series. Earlier in the year, the Brewers had also recorded an eight-game winning streak.

2021: An Almost-Perfect 11-Game Run

In 2021, the Brewers came very close to triggering the George Webb promotion again. However, their streak ended with a 2-0 loss to the Pirates on the Fourth of July. Before that, Milwaukee was dominating, recording its first double-digit regular-season winning streak in 17 years.

The team scored five or more runs in 9 of the 11 games and allowed barely more than three runs per game during the run. Their pitching staff, led by Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes, was dominant, but the offense struggled against the Braves in the NLDS.

2003: A Short but Notable 10-Game Streak

Although the 2003 Brewers finished with a poor record of 68-94, they managed a 10-game winning streak in August. The run included back-to-back walk-off wins by Royce Clayton and Richie Sexson. Dan Kolb recorded five saves during the stretch, and Bill Hall hit a home run in a 4-3 win over Cincinnati.

However, Geoff Jenkins injured his thumb in the final game of the streak, which derailed the team’s momentum. Milwaukee went 10-19 for the rest of the season.

Other Notable Streaks

Other notable winning streaks include:

  • 1988: A 10-game run that helped the Brewers improve from an 8-11 start to an 18-11 record.
  • 1979: A 10-game winning streak that included a 17-inning battle against the Indians.
  • 1978: A 10-game run that featured multiple extra-inning wins and a walk-off homer by Robin Yount.
  • 1973: The first 10-game winning streak in franchise history, featuring two 1-0 games.
  • 2023: A nine-game run that helped the Brewers gain control of the National League Central.
  • 2014: A nine-game winning streak that started with a dramatic win at Fenway Park.
  • 2013: A nine-game run that included a walk-off against the Giants.
  • 1997: A nine-game stretch that included a one-hit shutout by Steve Woodard against Roger Clemens.

These winning streaks not only highlight the talent and resilience of the Brewers over the years but also serve as reminders of the excitement that comes with being a fan of this storied franchise.
