Ellen DeGeneres Abandons Britain as Trump and Vance Arrive for UK Maga Summer

A New Chapter in the Cotswolds
The coming weeks have been marked by a unique blend of politics and personal life, as both Donald Trump and JD Vance make their way to the UK. This period has been dubbed a "MAGA British summer" by some, reflecting the growing influence of American political figures in the region. However, this development has not gone unnoticed by everyone, especially Ellen DeGeneres, who has expressed her concerns about the situation.
Trump is currently in Scotland, where he's enjoying golf and engaging in discussions with European and British leaders. His presence is part of a broader trend of U.S. politicians visiting the UK for both official and personal reasons. Meanwhile, JD Vance is set to visit the Cotswolds with his family next month, adding another layer to the ongoing narrative.
DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, made the move to the Cotswolds in November last year, and she has openly stated that Trump's election was a significant factor in their decision to leave California. The couple arrived just before the election, and the news of Trump's victory led to an emotional response from their friends, which prompted them to stay in the UK.
Now, DeGeneres is reportedly planning a two-week holiday away from her new home during the time when Vance is expected to visit the area. This timing has sparked some speculation about the potential interactions between the two high-profile individuals.
In addition to this, it has been revealed that the couple is selling one of their two homes in the Cotswolds for £22.5 million, which is £7.5 million more than what they originally paid. The Cotswolds has become a popular destination for British celebrities, with notable names like the Beckham family and Kate Moss choosing to reside in the area.
A Trend of Political Visits
US politicians visiting the UK and Ireland for personal reasons is not a new phenomenon. However, this year has taken on a distinct character, with some labeling it as a "Maga British summer." The term reflects the increasing presence of Republican figures in the region, particularly during the 2024 election cycle.
JD Vance’s family previously visited London before the 2024 election, where they were given a private tour of the British Museum by George Osborne, who serves as the chairman there. In contrast, Joe Biden’s trip to Ireland in 2023 was primarily focused on addressing his ancestral roots, with the main purpose being to speak to tens of thousands of people in his ancestral town of County Mayo.
Similarly, in 2011, Barack Obama visited his “ancestral home” in Moneygall, Ireland, highlighting the deep connections many Americans have with the UK.
Trump’s Visit to Scotland
In recent days, Trump has been in Scotland, visiting his Turnberry golf course in Ayrshire. During this time, he has held meetings with EU chief Ursula von der Leyen and is set to meet with Sir Keir Starmer and Scotland's First Minister John Swinney on Monday.
When Trump touched down at Glasgow Prestwick Airport in Ayrshire on Friday, he made a strong statement about the need for Europe to address illegal immigration, calling it a "horrible invasion" that is "killing Europe."
His visit also has personal significance. In 2008, during a planning dispute over his golf course in Ayrshire, Trump discussed his personal connections to the area, citing his Gaelic-speaking mother, who came from the village of Tong in the Outer Hebrides. He shared, "If it weren't for my mother, would I have walked away from this site? I think probably I would have, yes. The reason I got involved was because of the feeling I have for Scotland."
