Lauren Boebert Speaks Out on Her Son's Legal Troubles

U.S. Representative Lauren Boebert, a Republican from Colorado, has addressed recent legal issues involving her 20-year-old son, Tyler, who is facing a misdemeanor citation for child abuse. According to reports, the incident occurred on July 11 and involved Tyler’s son. A court summons obtained by a local outlet stated that no death or injury occurred during the event.

Tyler, the eldest of Boebert’s four sons, was issued the citation by the Windsor Police Department (WPD), which is located about 60 miles outside Denver. The details surrounding the incident remain unclear, but Boebert released a statement addressing the situation. She said, “Tyler has been doing a great job getting his life on track as a father and citizen over the past year.”

Boebert added that the incident stemmed from a miscommunication regarding the monitoring of her young grandson. “Unfortunately, this event stems from a miscommunication on monitoring my young grandson that recently led to him getting out of our house,” she said in the statement.

The Windsor Police Department and the Weld County District Attorney did not immediately respond to requests for comment at the time of the report. However, the situation has raised concerns about Tyler’s history with the law.

A History of Legal Issues

Tyler has faced criminal charges in the past. In February 2024, when he was 18 years old, he was arrested on felony charges related to a series of property thefts and vehicle trespasses. At the time, the Rifle Police Department in Colorado reported that Tyler was facing “four felony counts of Criminal Possession ID Documents - Multiple Victims, one felony count of Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, and over 15 additional misdemeanor and petty offenses.”

In a statement given to a news outlet at the time, Boebert expressed her support for her son. “I love my son Tyler, who has been through some very difficult, public challenges for a young man and the subject of attention that he didn’t ask for,” she said. “It breaks my heart to see my child struggling and, in this situation, especially when he has been provided multiple opportunities to get his life on track.”

She also emphasized that Tyler should be held accountable for his actions. “As an adult and father, Tyler will take responsibility for his actions and should be held accountable for poor decisions just like any other citizen.”

Plea Agreement and Previous Charges

According to a report from the Post Independent, Tyler reached an agreement and entered a guilty plea to one count of attempted identity theft, a class five felony, as part of a plea deal. The remaining charges were dismissed. This resolution came weeks after his father, Lauren’s ex-husband Jayson Boebert, was arrested following an alleged public altercation involving the former couple.

Jayson, 43, was arrested in January on suspicion of misdemeanor assault and criminal mischief, according to Garfield County records viewed by CBS News. He was released from the county jail on the same day of his arrest. The Silt Police Department in northwest Colorado confirmed that it had launched an investigation after Jayson claimed he was a victim of domestic violence, alleging that his ex-wife "punched" him in the face multiple times at a restaurant.

Family Background and Political Career

Lauren Boebert, who filed for divorce from Jayson last spring, citing irreconcilable differences, previously represented Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District from 2021 to January 2025. She ran for Congress in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, a much redder district, in the 2024 election and won.

In addition to Tyler, the representative also shares three other sons—Brody, Kaydon, and Roman—with Jayson. Despite the challenges her family has faced, Boebert continues to serve her constituents and remains active in political affairs.
