Chicago weekend violence leaves 1 dead, 16 injured, police say

Overview of Recent Shootings in Chicago

Chicago has experienced a series of violent incidents over the weekend, with at least one person killed and 16 others injured. The victims range in age from 6 to 50 years old, highlighting the broad impact of the violence across different communities.

Shootings on Friday

The first incident occurred just before 6 p.m. on Friday when a 20-year-old man was shot in his lower leg on South Kedvale Avenue. He was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital and is in good condition. Police were unable to locate the crime scene.

Later that evening, around 9:35 p.m., a 6-year-old boy was shot while inside a vehicle on West 59th Place. According to police, the child was a passenger in a westbound white SUV when someone inside another vehicle fired shots, hitting the boy in the backside. He was taken to Christ Hospital in good condition.

Other shootings occurred between 5 p.m. on Friday and 5 a.m. on Monday, adding to the growing list of incidents.

Shootings on Saturday

At 12:57 a.m. on Saturday, three men were shot while traveling in a vehicle on South Marquette Avenue. A 32-year-old man was grazed in the hand, a 25-year-old was hit in the torso and leg, and a third man, whose age was not released, was hit in the cheek and hand. All were in good condition after being taken to the hospital.

At 4:44 a.m., a 28-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Christ Hospital in serious condition, where he later died.

Another shooting occurred at 4:41 a.m. on North Hoyne Avenue, where a 23-year-old man was shot in the back while inside a vehicle. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

At 6:09 a.m., a 50-year-old man was shot in the chest and right arm while outside on West Harrison Street. He was taken to Mt. Sinai in serious condition.

At 10:40 a.m., a 48-year-old man was grazed in the neck while outside on W. West End Avenue. He was taken to Loretto Hospital in good condition.

Later in the day, a 42-year-old man accidentally shot himself in the leg while inside a vehicle on East 67th Place. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.

A 16-year-old boy was shot in the calf near the sidewalk on South Laflin Street. He was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition.

At 10 p.m., a 29-year-old man was shot while walking outside on North Kedzie Avenue. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds and self-transported to Stroger Hospital in fair condition.

Shootings on Sunday

The violence continued into Sunday, with an 18-year-old man shot in the right thigh on South California Avenue at 1:12 a.m. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.

At 3:50 a.m., a 41-year-old man was hit in the back of the head while driving on South Cottage Grove Avenue. He was taken to St. Bernard Hospital in serious condition.

At 8:29 a.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot in the left knee while outside on West Madison Street. He self-transported to Loretto Hospital in good condition.

A 23-year-old man was struck in the leg by gunfire while in a vehicle on South Western Avenue at 3 p.m. He self-transported to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition.

At 7:42 p.m., a 33-year-old man was shot in the elbow during a physical altercation on North Western Avenue. The suspect fled the scene, and the victim was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston in good condition.

No Arrests Made

Unless otherwise noted, no arrests have been made in any of these incidents. Authorities continue to investigate and monitor the situation as the city deals with the ongoing wave of violence.
