Broncos Camp Update | Day 4 Highlights

Injuries and Roster Adjustments
The Broncos experienced some setbacks during the early days of training camp. Linebacker Alex Singleton underwent surgery to repair a broken thumb sustained on Monday, and he is expected to return within a week. Meanwhile, wide receiver A.T. Perry remains sidelined, though there is optimism about his return soon. Another linebacker, Drew Sanders, missed practice due to a foot injury that could keep him out for up to eight weeks.
Despite these challenges, the team managed to avoid major injuries through Day 4, allowing them to focus on development and preparation for the upcoming season.
Levelle Bailey's Rise
Second-year linebacker Levelle Bailey has made a significant impact during camp. Undrafted in 2023, Bailey earned a spot with the team after an impressive 94-yard interception return in the preseason finale. According to head coach Sean Payton, Bailey has shown a marked improvement in confidence and performance this year. With Singleton and Sanders out, Bailey is positioned to take on a larger role alongside Dre Greenlaw. While Justin Strnad offers experience, his potential is limited compared to Bailey’s growing promise.
RJ Harvey Shines
RJ Harvey, the rookie running back, continues to impress with his explosive plays. His signature jump-cut has drawn praise from both fans and coaches. During Tuesday’s practice, Harvey executed a powerful cut that led to a big gain against the defense. Payton noted that Harvey is progressing quickly and could be a key player in revitalizing Denver’s rushing attack.
Audric Estime's Role
Audric Estime, a second-year running back, also had a strong showing on Day 4. Despite being overshadowed by the arrival of Harvey and veteran J.K. Dobbins, Estime is poised to play a vital role in Payton’s running-back-by-committee approach.
Defensive Pressure on Bo Nix
The Broncos’ defense continued to dominate on Tuesday, applying constant pressure on quarterback Bo Nix. Nix was forced to scramble outside the pocket at times, and even threw a few passes away. The front seven showed strength against the run, reinforcing the belief that this defense could be one of the best in the league.
Payton's Perspective on Nix's Scrambling
Payton addressed concerns about Nix’s scrambling during practice. He emphasized that while it’s a strength, the focus is on ensuring Nix makes smart decisions at the end of plays. Payton noted that Nix’s ability to extend plays was a key factor in his success last season, and he remains confident in his development.
Troy Franklin's Performance
Troy Franklin continued to make an impression, especially in one-on-one drills. He had a standout rep against first-rounder Jahdae Barron, showcasing his talent. Although Payton hasn’t yet named Franklin as the No. 2 receiver, his consistent performance suggests he is gaining traction.
Courtland Sutton's Contract Extension
Courtland Sutton, fresh off a four-year, $92 million contract extension, was in high spirits during practice. He participated in 11-on-11 drills and entertained fans during special teams sessions. Sutton reflected on his legacy with the Broncos and expressed excitement about the future of the team.
Kris Abrams-Draine's Contributions
Kris Abrams-Draine, often overlooked in the cornerback room, had a solid performance during team period. He broke up a pass and demonstrated his ability to compete at a high level. With the addition of Barron, the Broncos have a deep and talented cornerback group, with Patrick Surtain II and Riley Moss leading the way.
Sai'vion Jones Makes an Impact
Sai'vion Jones, the Broncos’ second third-round pick, continued to show his potential. His size and power stood out during defensive drills. Combined with positive feedback on Eyioma Uwazurike, the defensive line appears to be in good shape heading into the preseason. Fans will be eager to see how Jones performs against top competition in the coming weeks.
