Behind the Scenes with 'Alien: Earth' Cast at Comic-Con 2025

A New Chapter for Sydney Chandler at San Diego Comic-Con
Sydney Chandler has always dreamed of attending San Diego Comic-Con as a fan, but this year, she's stepping onto the convention floor in a completely different role. As an actor, she's now part of the cast promoting her upcoming FX series “Alien: Earth.” This experience is not just a professional milestone—it’s a surreal moment that she never imagined.
Chandler plays Wendy, a young girl whose consciousness has been transferred into an android. The role has left a deep impact on her, both professionally and personally. “To be able to do it in this capacity is just mind-blowing,” she said, reflecting on the opportunity. “It’s emotional because we worked on this for so long and I learned so much. … I'm kind of at a loss of words.”
Despite the overwhelming emotions, Chandler found strength in her character. Wendy’s journey of self-discovery and independence resonated with her. “Her journey of finding out how to hold her own and stand on her own two feet taught me so much,” she shared. “I'm an overthinker. I'm an anxious person. I would have run so fast. I would not be as brave as her, but she taught me … that it's OK to just stand on your own two feet, and that's enough. That's powerful.”
A Star-Studded Arrival
Before the official Hall H premiere, fans were already lining up outside the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego, eager to catch a glimpse of the “Alien: Earth” cast. Alongside Chandler were Timothy Olyphant, Alex Lawther, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, creator Noah Hawley, and executive producer David Zucker. Their arrival was a major event, drawing attention from fans and media alike.
On the bus ride to the convention center, Hawley expressed confidence about the first episode. “I really think, in a strange way, it plays for all ages because it is about growing up on some level,” he said. “But it's also ‘Alien,’ and it is a meditation on power and corporate power.”
Laughter and Camaraderie
As the cast made their way to the event, there was plenty of lighthearted banter among the actors. Ceesay was surprised to learn that this was the first time for Olyphant, Lawther, and Blenkin attending San Diego Comic-Con. The group exchanged jokes and playful teasing, creating a sense of camaraderie.
“I just sort of want to make jokes with you all the time,” Lawther said, looking at his cast mates. “I find it quite giddy in the experience, and I had to remind myself that I'm a professional.” Blenkin added, “Sometimes the British sarcasm instinct just kicks in.”
The fun continued as they joked about crashing each other’s panels and sneaking up on one another backstage in the dark. Their dynamic brought a sense of humor and warmth to the event.
Engaging with Fans
After the panel, the cast was quickly whisked away for video interviews and a meet-and-greet at a booth on the exhibit floor. Fans eagerly lined up to get autographs and take photos with their favorite stars. “Timothy, you're the man!” shouted one fan passing by.
Later, Hawley, Chandler, and Ceesay participated in the immersive “Alien: Earth” activation, where they explored the wreckage of a crashed ship. For Chandler, the experience was more than just a promotional event—it was a reminder of why she fell in love with film in the first place.
“San Diego Comic-Con is such a safe space for people who just enjoy cinema and enjoy film,” she said. “And that's me. I'm a complete nerd for all this stuff, so just to be around that group— it reminds me of why I love film so much in the first place.”
