A Timeless Tradition: 109th Mount Olivet Camp Begins

A Place of Rest and Spiritual Renewal
Nestled in the heart of Hinton, West Virginia, Mount Olivet Camp has long been a sanctuary for individuals seeking respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life. This cherished location has served as a gathering place for spiritual reflection, community bonding, and personal growth for many years. As the camp prepares for its 109th annual meeting, it continues to uphold its legacy of providing meaningful experiences for attendees.
A Legacy of Faith and Fellowship
The 2025 Mount Olivet Camp meeting promises to be another memorable event, with notable figures returning to contribute their insights and guidance. Dr. Tom Lorimer, affiliated with Kentucky Mountain Bible College, will once again deliver messages during morning and evening worship services, as well as lead morning Bible studies throughout the week. His eighth consecutive year at the camp underscores his deep connection to the community and the significance of the event.
Dr. Lorimer reflects on the importance of the people who make the camp possible. “The best thing about the camp meeting is the people, the people who make it up. It would not be anything without people. I appreciate the people who love the Lord and serve the Lord,” he shares. He also acknowledges the historical significance of the event, noting that it is the 109th year of the camp meeting. “I think of all of those who have gone before us that laid that path, that trail – that we are benefiting from that today.”
Missionary Insights and Global Connections
Another key figure returning this year is missionary Amber Haasenritter, representing One Mission Society. She has been actively involved in leading youth programs and has made two trips to Ukraine as part of her mission work. Haasenritter highlights the ongoing revival of Christian faith in Ukraine despite the challenges posed by the conflict with Russia. “A couple of years ago, I would never have said I would be doing any of this if God had not put this [as] a blip on my map. But now it is very important to go and like specifically go to Ukraine, go to the people, but then also to come home and tell our people what is going on.”
Haasenritter emphasizes the importance of sharing firsthand accounts of life in Ukraine. “We only get so much from the news and so much of it may or may not be true. I know lots of Ukrainians I speak to, one in particular I can think of says [to] go and tell people like what is going on here, tell them to visit. He knows that that is not going to happen for many people because it is a war zone and it is not safe. But it is important to them that people know what is going on in Ukraine.”
During her time at the camp, Haasenritter will have the opportunity to share her experiences with attendees on Sunday afternoons. From Monday through Friday, she will lead Youth Services at 2 p.m. each day, offering valuable insights and encouragement to young participants.
A Theme of Hope and Resilience
This year’s camp theme, drawn from 1 Peter 1:25, resonates deeply with the spirit of the event. “God is funny. He has got a good sense of humor and he places all things together because I knew what I was speaking on before I knew what they had decided what the theme was camp for was for this year. But it goes along right along with it,” Haasenritter notes.
Musical Highlights and Community Engagement
In addition to the inspiring messages, the camp will feature special music performances that promise to uplift and engage attendees. Daniel and Kendra Brandon will return to lead worship, bringing their talents and passion to the event. Their presence adds a dynamic element to the camp’s schedule, enhancing the overall experience for participants.
A Call to Learn and Grow
As the camp continues to evolve, it remains committed to fostering a sense of community and spiritual growth. The camp also offers opportunities for children to share what they have learned, particularly through initiatives like Camp Kindness. These activities encourage young minds to reflect on their experiences and express their newfound knowledge.
